De cd begint subliem met "The knell and the world", dat al snel de stijl van deze release onthult. Een ongeveer 8 minuten durende song opgebouwd uit snelle, heel melodieuze riffs die eigenlijk verscheidene variaties zijn op enkele muzikale thema's en de muziek een klassiek allure meegeven.
Het gitaarwerk is strak en sfeervol geproduceert, net als de afwisselende, snelle drums. De ijzige screams die op vaak een soort verhalende, heel melodieuze zanglijn volgen passen perfect bij de andere instrumenten en vormen een belangrijk onderdeel in de obscure, haatdragend agressieve sfeer van het album, die bij wijlen doet denken aan Dissection.
Dit album is weer maar eens het bewijs dat je ook zonder een overvloed aan synths een duister gevoel kunt scheppen. Persoonlijk vind ik "Slaughtersun - Crown of the Triarchy" één van de beste atmosferische black metal releases ooit.
